Memories of our childhood are some of the greatest things we have sometimes....
Last month when I was visiting my father back in Louisiana I was reminded of a love I had let slip away. While walking down through the country I noticed some vines growing and the beautiful fruit they bore. DEW BERRIES....remembering as a small girl that I loved to go out in the fields and old oil sites around our home and pick them. Picking them was so much fun,but no where near the fun as getting them washed and covering them with some good old cream and sugar.
If you know anything about Dew Berries you know that the snakes like them just as much as we do..but there wasn't a snake I wouldn't fight to get that plump...ripe berry full of great flavor.
When I went back to visit Louisiana with my son and his wife Mandi I was happy to share the memories and special times with her. See not everyone has the pleasure of growing up like I did. I don't think Mandi had ever seen Dew Berries, but she jumped right in there with us....many mornings early we would get up...grab some buckets and take off on our adventure. After a few days we had so many berries it was time to do something with them. After a fresh bowl with cream and sugar( Mandi liked hers with yogurt) we headed to the nearest town to find jars to make Jam. There is nothing like being able to get out a jar of fresh jam and cook some HOT BISCUITS on a cold winter morning or serve fresh over Cream Cheese with crackers for a party.
I think about it this way...God has given us so many things on this earth that we can use and they are free and all we have to do is use them.
I'm so thankful for my childhood and great parents that taught me the simple pleasures of life.
I have added a few photos of my canned Jam and a Recipe for cobbler.
Enjoy: Brenda

I've never heard of Dew Berries before but I do love any kind of berries so I'm sure I'd like these too:-) I always enjoy making jam and as soon as I know I'll run out of it, I make another couple of batches. Your cobbler recipe sounds so delicious, I'm going to copy it down. I'm in love with that little holder you bought, so perfect to put two jars of jam in!! xoxo
